Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum:
Redesigning a digital globe for interactive sustainability education.

PURPOSE

The Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, in partnership with PUSH Studio, is transforming its 7-foot digital globe into an interactive centerpiece for sustainability education. By incorporating real-time data visualization, storytelling, and gamified learning, this project seeks to engage visitors of all ages in understanding and addressing environmental challenges. The goal is to make sustainability accessible and actionable, fostering local action to build resilient communities.

PROCESS

This ongoing project is employing a dual-track approach, combining conceptual development and technical prototyping. Extensive interviews with museum staff and sustainability experts shaped themes and narratives that hope to inspire visitors. Meanwhile, experiments with motion tracking, gestural input, game development, and AI-generated visuals have enabled the creation of intuitive and engaging interactive features. These iterative designs are being tested collaboratively to deliver a final experience that aligns with the museum's vision of immersive, impactful education.
